My older boys' room has been in dire need of some wall ornamentation for about 1.5 years now. But I had two problems: 1) couldn't find anything I liked much, and 2) really couldn't afford much. But then my brain stepped up and came up with a fabulous idea. I give you...
CHEAP WALL ART!
a tutorial
you're welcome

You'll need:
- foam core board
-Modge Podge
-card stock in color of your choice
-pattern paper of your choice
-glue stick (and actually, spray adhesive would be great, in addition. But mine was all dried out. sad.)
-scissors and craft knife (I couldn't find mine. My thumb was numb (rhyme!) for days)
-Spray Paint
-a simple image you stole from the Internet or other source (I did Google Image searches and looked at free clip art places. I also raided a vinyl wall art website)

Cut out your stolen image and using the glue stick (or spray adhesive if you're better prepared than me) attach it to the card stock.

Cut out all the negative space of the image using your scissors and craft knife, for the finer details. Flip the pieces over, so only the card stock is showing. If you used a glue stick, you can probably peel the original printed image off. But it really isn't necessary.

sorry the image is sideways. I'm too lazy to fix it.
Arrange the pieces of your image back in order on the card stock, gluing in place. Set aside.

Cut out a piece of foam core board to the size of your pattern paper. I did 12 *12 and was able to get 3 squares per board. You could probably sand the edges or something to get them smoother. I did not, but wish I had. Spray adhesive the pattern paper with image glued to that onto the foam core.

Spray paint the edges of the mounted paper and foam core. Afterwards, I kind of wished I'd spray painted prior to putting the image on, but whatever. I still like the end result.

When spray paint has dried, which is super fast, modge podge the entire thing with a nice, thick coat of Modge Podge. Note: the paper may curl or warp a little, but as it dries it will flatten out pretty nicely.
I figure I was able to make 10 pieces for my boys for less than $20, though I did have most of it on hand. Still, if you had to buy *everything* just for this project, it should still be around $40. Cheap!

VERY cute!
Here I am perusing this blog i Linked to from Char's, and thinking what CUTE ideas, and then I see the name Sabra, and then I realize I know you. Lol! Cute stuff girl!!! Love this idea especially because I'm a sucker for using scrapbook paper for things other than scrapbooking. ;)
WOW, this hasn't had a comment in a while, but I just ran across this so hoping to get a response. I LOVE this idea for my two upstairs bedrooms. I do have a question (and the answer may be in the post, but I missed if so). What is the black background? Is that painted on? Probably a silly question, but why re-work an idea if it's something else? :)
nagymom--Hi! I'm not sure if I understand your question. What black background are you referring to? Maybe the wall? I just hung the craft board on the wall, so I didn't rework it. But maybe that's not what you're talking abou? I'm sorry. If you want to email me at sewastraightline@gmail.com maybe I can answer better? Thanks!
