I shared this post on Skip to My Lou as part of the Bake Craft Sew Along earlier this month. I wanted to repost it here now because I really think these little birds would make adorable place “cards” at Thanksgiving. And then all your guests would have a little something to take home with them, too.
Here is a super quick and easy way to add a handmade touch to any gift; sweet little bird gift-tags
These use just a scrap of fabric, some ribbon and stuffing and very little time. They work great as gift tags, and can double as ornaments on a tree or wreath, or as place tags at the holiday table. I love that they can give even store-bought gifts that handmade, personal touch.
You can download the PDF bird template HERE. I originally made the template to go with a mobile for my baby’s nursery last year, so disregard the wing on the PDF. You could also trace out cookie-cutter shapes if birds aren’t your thing, or if you want some variety.
Cut two birds out of your fabric. I used cotton muslin.
Take a six-inch strip of ribbon and make a loop. Pin the loop to the wrong side of one of the bird bodies.
Place the other bird body, right side up, on the first, wrong sides together, sandwiching the ribbon loop and matching edges.
Starting at the lower front side of the bird, follow the shape of the bird up and around, securing the ribbon and ending about two inches from your starting point. Back stitch at both beginning and end.
