I have a lot of hair. If things you have no control over were accomplishments, I’d totally list “hair growth” on my resume. And true confession, I totally talked about my hair at a major job interview once. It just sort of happened during those “tell us about a time” questions, and I felt like a complete dweeb afterwards. Funny thing: later one of the interviewers told me my “hair story” was one of the reasons I got the job. As an investment broker. True story.
Anyway, hair. I have it.
Recently I received Dove Intensive Repair conditioner to try out. I’m very much a “wash and wear” girl. I don’t do much with my hair. I braid it, I twist it into a bun. My sister gave me a nice flat-iron for my birthday this year, and I have been trying to use that regularly like a real grown-up. But that’s about it.
I’ve noticed, especially with my last two pregnancies, that my hair has been changing. It frizzes and “kinks” more than it ever has before. It might be more age than pregnancies, but let’s blame it on the kids. The heat and activities of summer just seem to add to this, making my hair more dry and harder to control. Whatever the reason, I’ve taken to buying product to put in my hair after washing and drying, to try to control the frizz more, to keep it smooth and feel less brittle and dry.
So, I used the Dove conditioner, and guess what? My hair totally was less frizzy! I really wish I had taken “before” shots, but I really didn’t expect to see any difference after the first use. Dove conditioner “repairs and nourishes hair”, so I took that to mean it would take some time. But I really could tell a difference after first use.
Check it; just combed after shower then air-dried, no product or anything done at all
I think this picture makes me seem like Cousin It. Like I have no face, just hair. Creepy.
The biggest thing I noticed with the Dove conditioner is that my hair feels much softer. Also, my husband keeps smelling it. So it’s like a total multi-sensory experience!
And then I straightened my hair. Usually I’d run a leave-in conditioner through my hair after straightening. My hair always feels dry and weak from the hot iron, and I worry about heat damage. But the past week, using the Dove, I’ve just let it be after straightening and it feels, and looks, the same as when I’ve added the leave-in product.
Now, I don’t buy high-end hair products. I use store-brand shampoo and usually whatever conditioner is on sale and looks decent. So I can’t compare the Dove to any fancy-shmancy salon brands. But as a simple girl with simple needs, Dove totally works great. It is affordable, easy to find, easy to use, and it does what it claims. My hair is soft and less brittle. It doesn’t feel dry, allowing me to skip an extra step and an extra product in my daily routine. I also like that my hair doesn’t feel greasy, it’s just not frizzy. The bottle also says it will prevent future damage, so hopefully that means I can continue to use my flat-iron without worrying about long-term effects as much.
And just to prove how awesome it is, I tied my hair in a knot, like they do on TV, to show how strong and not-breaking my hair is!
Impressive, right? You should hear my job interview talking points.
