thinking ahead, and enter to win!

Driving the kids all around for various summertime activities has me thinking about what I want in a new car. Our minivan is ten years old and it won’t be long before we’re in the market for something new. We’re now a family of six(!), so we need space for everyone, and their respective car seats and/or boosters. We’ve done our time with a boring minivan and are hoping to get something a little more exciting and less cliché for our family. Crossovers are high on our list because they offer the space we need while still making us look cool.

Or as cool as 30-somethings shuttling four kids around town can be!

The 2013 Kia Sorento is a super-sleek and sporty crossover that looks fun to drive.

It also starts at just over $23,000. We’re hoping to pay cash for our next car, so a reasonable price tag is a must. But even at $23K starting, the Sorento has an impressive list of features and options. It has all the latest and greatest technology, like a rear backup camera, heated seats and voice-command navigation. Panoramic sunroofs are even available. The late-night drive home from grandma’s would be so much more fun if the kids could look at the stars on the way.
kia features
Safety is another big issue for me as a mom.  We live in a small, out-of-the-way town.  Most of our activities and errands as a family involve highway driving, even a run to the grocery store.  The Sorento features active headrests, rollover sensors and standard LATCH system for child seats, in addition to 1st and 2nd row passengers side-curtain airbags.
kia safety
The Sorento also has seating for up to seven. And with the concealed storage, there’s even room for the stuff that that many people need to bring along for the ride. Plus, the seats fold down to allow for all kinds of configurations and packing-for-activities options. Roof rails are standard in a few of the packages. Our current van has no roof storage. We have four kids. They have a lot of stuff. We need these options!

As I mentioned before, we’ve had our current car almost as long as we’ve been parents. We like to get our money’s worth out of vehicles. With Kia’s warranty program, we’d be able to drive the Sorento for a decade and still be covered. And in the Sorento, we’d look much cooler than in our old minivan.

Very cool looking car- but where would you put US? I guess Doug could ride on the roof. He'd like that.

I love the EcoMinder feature in particular, but the whole vehicle is filled with fun things.

I've been looking at this car but I didn't do much research...it seems like a GREAT family car.

The side curtain airbags surprised me most. I didn't even know those existed!

Thanks for all the info about the sorrento. We're looking at vans, etc. I like that the back seat folds down so we could put my daughter's wheelchair in back in one piece instead of taken apart and in the trunk like we've been doing with our car! Thanks also for the giveaway.

I've looked at that car, too. Seems like such a great value. Most surprising to me is the price and the fuel economy. I sure would love to win one!

Im surprized by all the space!! Now you just made me want to get one!!

THe side airbags are great but the third row seat is my favorite thing. My son is developmentally disabled and sometimes he has aggression issues in the car. At the moment all 3 kids squeeze into the back seat of my 12 yr old CRV. If he has issues and grabs at his siblings I have to pull over and remove him until he calms down. It is nice to know about options out there that have that extra row.

We considered getting one of these last year. I was surprised the fuel economy was so good. HOWEVER, we ended up getting a Mazda 5 instead - and I am so glad. The third row is much more accessible and I love the sliding doors (like a van) yet it feels like you're driving a car.

I can't believe how much room that has. I'm looking to get a new car. I'll add this to my research list

I think the most unexpected feature is how big it looks on the inside for how manageable it looks on the outside!

I drive a very small car here on Cape Cod, but if I (ever!) get a job off-Cape, I want something a little larger and safer for a commute closer to Boston. This would also work for my budding slipcovering business.

I think the push start button w/ the smart key is awesome but the panaramic sunroof sounds pretty rad and unexpected....I assume from the description it is over the 2nd and 3rd row seats....? (i couldn't find it on the link to view....)
Anyway..I want one and I hope I win!! ;)

The side curtain air bags were the most surprising feature to me. In the picture included in your review the side curtain air bags look like they really surround the vehicle's passengers. altern147 [at] yahoo [dot] com
