stripes is the new black

IMG_8269I received these shoes for free as part of a promotional thing I participated in.  They’re BOBs by Sketchers, aka: knock-off TOMs.  I didn’t get to choose style or color.  They’re comfortable and easy to wear, but the black seemed boring.  Seeing as they were free shoes, I figured I had nothing really to lose by experimenting with them.

So I found some electrical tape in our utility drawer and slapped some on the shoes in a stripey pattern

Then I took a bleach pena nd spread the bleach all over the shoes

A dip in vinegar and water to neutralize the bleach

An hour to dry in the blazing-hot sun

And now they look like this.

And I can’t decide if I like them or want to bleach them out more.
But improvement or downgrade,

they’re no longer boring.

Excellent! My 93-year-old, Great Depression survivor Grandma would be mighty impressed with your ingenuity and thrift!
