I’ve started planning this baby’s room. Do you want to see my plans?
Okay, here is our nursery as of this morning…
It’s a pretty small room, only about 10’*10 or so, with an even smaller closet (the closets in my house are a total joke). We still need to finish cleaning everything out, as it’s been mostly a storage room since my youngest son decided he wanted to share a room with his older brothers this past year. We need a new crib, as our previous one was among the causalities in the Great Crib Recall of 2011. I’m undecided on a wood color. Thoughts? Oh, wait, maybe I should show you what I have planned first.
I went through three “this is for sure what I’m doing” plans before ditching them all and jumping in with both feet and all my PayPal into MoMo’s It’s a Hoot line for Moda
I had forgotten I’d picked up a couple of charm packs this past winter in this line, just because it’s so unbelievably cute and the deal was too good to pass up. In trying to find some fabric in my stash for another project, I came across the charm packs and knew this was *really* the line I wanted to do the room around. Unfortunately, it’s discontinued and all of my favorite prints and colorways are no longer so easy to track down. But I’m slowly acquiring it all through eBay, Etsy and some amazing online shops that have been super sweet and helpful. The packages started arriving this week and I’m getting super excited to get started.
The quilt will be the Abundantly Blessed by Cotton Way pattern.
I know, it’s a table runner. But I figure with an extra charm pack, I can extend things out easily enough to make a crib sized quilt. Right? Anyone used this pattern and care to comment?
The back will be this:
It’s a super busy print, but I think it will be perfect for the back. Here is a quilt on the Moda website done with this as the backing, just to prove it to you.
Just think of it with cute scalloped edges!
I’m going to use Simplicity 3795 for the bumper and skirt.
I’ve used it before, actually twice now, and there are some things I’ll change. But overall, I think it’s a cute pattern. I won’t be using the flower tie friends, and I’ll most likely do the bumper as four pieces instead of six. But I love the skirt, and the overall look of the bumper. So yeah. The bumper will be ![]()
On the back and peaking out over the top.
For the skirt, the bottom will be ![]()
With
As the middle little strip. And just a solid cream, matching the colorway, for the top/main fabric. The pattern calls for rick rack, which I really love, but I’m not sure if I’ll use with so many busy prints. So maybe if I do it in cream? I don’t know. We’ll see.
The valance will be
Or maybe just the solid cream like the bumper? Either way, with a strip of either
or
Along the bottom. Which do you think? I’m leaning toward the pistachio floral. I love the dots, but the plan is to recover the glider cushions in
And that’s a lot of pink.
As for the walls, below the chair railing will be white. And above that? Right now I’m thinking a pale blue from the big panel I first showed
But I’m not sure, and totally accepting paint suggestions. I don’t want pink walls, though.
I also I want to paint the cheap-o changing station
A green like this
And then add some cute hardware.
And the glider needs something in the way of paint, too
Okay, it probably a lot of somethings, including fixing that broken arm. If we were planning on more kids, I may splurge for a new chair. But as is, I’d rather just make do with what we’ve got. I think recovering the cushions in
Will help a lot. I hope.
I also would really love to make a little mobile of soft birds out of some of the fabrics. Sort of kind of like this
But not totally like that. It’s in my head, you know.
So yeah, that’s that. I have about 4.6 million projects I need to get finished first, and then it’s onto this fun stuff! We have 15 weeks before D-day, so I gotta get cracking. Your assignment is to help me figure out the wall paint, the crib color, the valance fabric and what to do about that glider. Please?!

I really, really like your plans. And that material! Oh, yeah. And the chair? Well, I think that you should buy a new one- you know- just in case. Hehe.
I've painted that room before and I'll paint it again. I'm all yours for sewing, painting and any other scheming you might be in need of.
XOXOXO
A lovely idea for a colour scheme. Girly, but not too much. I think cream and sage green for the walls to get a restful atmosphere. Good Luck!
You're so far ahead of me. We've got 12 weeks, and I haven't even thought about boy crib stuff. I'm pretty sure they will all share a room, but I gotta give the kid something non-pink, right? Eh, I'll think about it later :) Thinking about it means it is getting closer...
I want to redo my glider too.
It was a craiglist find.
If you find any good tutorials on how to successfully repaint one I'd love for you to send it my way.
As far as redoing the cushions I think I can handle that part....Your little girls room will be adorable!
We are doing a beachy so lots of tans, whites, and aquas!
But did I mention that we are military and living in an apartment until our base house is ready...which means that technically we don't have a guest room right now.
We have a cradle by the bedside and a makeshift changing station in the guest room.
It'll work for now!
Only 4 more weeks until our due date...

I can't tell you how much I love that fabric!!! So adorable and I love the backing of the quilt a ton. Adorable. So much to do! Let me know if you want some help...after September is over :).
Your plans sound great! I can't wait to see what it looks like when you're done. Try an enamel spray paint for the changing table, it will be a bit more expensive, but the results will make it worth it (also less sanding needed).
Oh dear Sabra, you got poor Blake all baby-hungry and now he's dying to decorate and redecorate! I don't know what he's gonna do with all those cute ideas you posted!
Okay, well here are my thoughts. Use the palest green for the wall colors with the white chair rail, possibly the green you were looking at for the changing table? I know you said you didn't want pink walls, so how do you feel about pink furniture? I suggest finding a solid wood crib that you can strip down and repaint, along with the changing table. Pottery Barn Kids has the most beautiful antique pink finish on their cribs and I think it would look fabulous with the fabrics you've chosen. Check it out! I like the floral rather than the dot for the valance, and perhaps glossy white to match the chair rail for the glider. That is, unless you decide to invest in a new one! Good luck!
I vote for white furniture, that is what we did for both kids rooms and it has such a clean look. Granted it does get dirty from fingerprints but nothing a new coat of paint won't fix!! LOVE the fabrics and I agree with no pink on the walls. I had that growing up and really don't like the color pink anymore. Plus, a valance is way easier to change than paint!! Happy crafting :)
Oh, my. Can I please come live in your nursery?!! That is all just plain delicious. I wouldn't have thought of it but I love the idea of very pale pink furniture.
I love that line! That will be so much fun. I can't wait to see how it all comes together!!!
