We’ll see if I actually get around to making the other two tops I’ve already cut out for Made By Rae’s Spring Top Week 2011. But at least I completed one. It’s pretty much made on-pattern from vintage Simplicity 9256, view 3.
The fabric is this great eyelet gauze (only mine is white) from Fabric.com. It’s super lightweight and has a nice stretch to it. So it’s very comfortable to wear, and perfect for a pull-over type tunic, since it allows for very free movement through the shoulders that a regular cotton may not.
The sash is some vintage toile from the stash my mother gave me.
The pattern came together super fast and easy. There are a couple of front darts and two more in the back at the shoulders to give it a little bit more structure. I did change the collar slightly, just narrowing it down a bit. I also made the back as one piece. I omitted the “vestee”, or little piece of fabric that was supposed to go at the neckline for modesty. Because I took that out, I didn’t need to have the tunic open at all in the back and could skip the back zipper all together.
And I really like it. It’s so very comfortable to wear. It’s light and airy and just feels like sunshine and summer days. Or spring days, whatever.

I love eyelet! I'm working on my last top right now, but I had to take a break from some cranky sleeves and blog surf. Your top is perfect for summer time!
