The Book says, “A Revere Collar is a style in which the facing of the lapels folds back to show the revers side of the lapel.”
I’d imagine you could do some pretty funky contrasting fabric looks with this collar because of the whole showed facing thing.
You’ll need a back jacket piece, two front jacket pieces and (not shown) the facing pieces. I made mine tiny because I’m about out of scrap/practice fabric
Transfer and then sew any darts, etc in place (hey, look! there are the front facings)
Attach interfacing, which I didn’t use.
Right sides together, attach the front jacket pieces to the back jacket piece as the shoulders. Attach the front facings to the back facing, also at the shoulders, right sides together
Pin the facing to the jacket right sides together. Match at shoulders and center back ![]()
Sew all along the facing from lower edge, up and around the entire edge of the jacket
Turn
Press and understitch. The Book said to just understitch to the lapel, but mine wasn’t laying flat so I did the whole facing. ![]()
And it turns out my tiny little practice jacket fit Barbie *perfectly*. It was really pretty crazy when I made Christie dig her old toys out of storage to try it out (there was no way GI Joe would fit into it). I think it was meant to be, so I left it with Christie, lucky her.
I’ll be honest, I really thought Revere Collars were lame when I saw them in The Book. But after making this tiny one, I kind of like them. Maybe it was just the style The Book showed? Or maybe it’s just that Barbie wears the look so well. You know how she is. That girl can wear anything. ![]()

Our Barbie thanks you for her new jacket. It really does fit her so well, but like you said, she can get away wearing anything.
Looks great, and I love your sense of humor Sabe.
Thanks for posting this, I'm making a dress with revere collars on the bodice which is not in the pattern so its nice to see how its done properly! (I've eliminated the facing because the lining makes the reverse, but kept the interfacing to add body (I really, really hope!)).
I also test my drafts in miniature on scraps, last year my daughter's pet cuddly sheep acquired a pair of Jacobean slops and I've just made a twelfth scale pair of wide pants for some lucky doll ;-)
I LOVE the revere collar! It looks fantastic. I think I might see if I can make one :-)
