Attaching a Collar without Facings

IMG_8396
Here we’ll go over how to attach a collar when the garment has no facings in use.  The Book says, “This method is often used with a stand or mandarin collar.”

-Prepare collar of your choice.  I went with mandarin.
-Sew shoulder seams of garment together

Finish the front placket or opening

Pin the collar to the right side of the garment, raw edges of the collar matching.  Only pin the lower layer of the collar.  Match all important points, like center, shoulder seams, etc

Sew that lower layer to the top edge of the garment

Flip the garment over and:
-Press the seam allowance from the lower layer up into the collar
-Press the raw edge of the upper layer underneath, also into the collar

Press, pin and sew the unsewn layer just below the stitched neckline seam

And you’re done! Way to go!
