Bound Flap Pockets

 IMG_6090
The Book says, “ Bound flap pockets are frequently used in coats and suit jackets as well as tailored skirts and shirts.”

You need the following five pieces for each pocket: two flaps, an1.5 inch inside welt, a 2 inch pocket facing, an under pocket lining, and a top pocket lining that is .5 inch longer than the under pocket lining

Place your flap pieces right sides together

Sew along the outside and angled edges

Turn and press

Place flap pointed up on the main fabric where you want the pocket opening (you should have marked this placement before.  Have I mentioned what a rush job I did with this?  sorry)

Baste in place

Fold the welt in half, wrong sides together.  Press

Baste welt to the main fabric at pocket placement, raw edge along the pocket opening line
 IMG_6082
Stitch the facing to the under pocket lining with 1/4 inch seam allowance
 IMG_6083
Place that facing and under pocket piece over the flap, right side down

And place the top pocket lining over the welt, right side down
 IMG_6085
Sew a rectangle through all layers of fabric 1/4 inch around the pocket opening placement
 IMG_6086
Cut the opening
 IMG_6087
Turn the pocket linings to the back through the opening
 IMG_6088
Sew the pocket pieces together, keeping the main fabric out of the way and catching the little triangle ends made when you cut the opening.

Thanks for the tutorial!
I've been struggling to find one like this online for the jacket I've been making. These instructions have been a lot of help :D
