Anyone else get a slightly condescending feel from The Book with that last statement? Hmmmm….
After marking your main piece with the placement markings for the pocket, cut out a pocket piece double the size of the pattern piece
Cut a slit on one end of the pocket piece, close to the edge, but far enough away so as not to worry about it in the stitchline.
Fold pocket piece in half, right sides together
Stitch along seamline
Clip corners and trim seam allowance, as needed
Using the slit on the one side, pull pocket piece right side out
Press
Pin pocket in place to main fabric piece
Topstitch in place, backstitching at either corner
You just leave that slit unfinished, since it’s on the inside and all. And, you know, on account of the whole “budget” and “easy-to-sew” thing.
