Plain Seam Using Basting Stitch

Plain Seam Using Basting Stitch

This is essentially the same method as sewing a Plain Seam, but with one major difference:
Stitch length.

Before you begin to sew, set your stitch length to the longest setting. On my machine that is a six, and the button to do this is pictured above, next to the "stop".

I've marked on the fabric so you can see the length of the basting stitch stitches.  They should be approximately six stitches per inch.

Finish as you would the Plain Seam.

The Book says:  "The basting stitch is used to sew two pieces of fabric together when a temporary seam is needed for preliminary fitting of a garment or as the first step in sewing a specialty seam."
